چکیده

A technic developed by Lutz, Handler, and as sociates (1-4) employed the cheek pouch of the hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) as a site for trans plantation of tissues, including animal and human cancers. Through the courtesy of these workers, we learned their method and employed it in ex periments on the heterologous transplantation of human cancers. Sixty-five human neoplasms were so implanted, with successful growth in 30 (46 per cent).

Heightened Immunity and Susceptibility toward Cheek Pouch Heterografts of a Mouse Leukemia in Syrian Hamsters.

Heterotransplantation of 1.0 X IO7AK-4 cells of AKR mice into cheek pouches of normal and cortisone-treated adult Syrian hamsters resulted in measurable but tran sient growth; small vascular tumors which appeared at 5-7 days regressed completely by 10-14 days. Noncortisonized hamsters vigorously rejected second-set grafts, which failed to vascularize, in considerably less time, in either the pr...

The biology of testicular cancer. I. Behavior after transplantation.

This study is concerned with the behavior after transplantation of eleven human testicular cancers heterografted to the hamster cheek pouch. It was undertaken in an effort to establish an adequate supply of uniform and predictable tumor cells upon which investigations could be made into the biology of testicular cancer. Several reports are available concerning the be havior after heterotranspla...

The response of explanted human tumors to radiation.

The culture of human tumors in the cheek pouch of the golden hamster (l^t) provides hu man cancer tissue for study of the effects of therapeutic radiation with minimal complications introduced by radiation of the host. EversiÃ3n of the pouch bearing the tumor permits its exposure, while the rest of the hamster is shielded. The tu mor grows in the loose submucosal areolar tissue of the pouch and...

Detection of Ki-ras messenger RNA in normal and chemically transformed hamster oral keratinocytes.

The cheek pouch of the Syrian hamster is an excellent model for the experimental study of oral carcinogenesis. The carcinogenic chemical 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene consistently produces epidermoid carcinomas in the cheek pouch of the Syrian hamster, giving rise to characteristic histopathological lesions in a time-dependent manner. We now present experimental evidence that c-Ki-ras mRNA can...
